Dutes, with five hundred pencils and Stan, with fifty pounds of carrots, sat side-by-side. Miller, using a manual pencil sharpener, sharpened the pencils to within a half-inch of their metal eraser holders. Shellabarger peeled his carrots until they were a half-inch long and a half-inch in diameter.
