Background:
Western Exhibitions is a commercial gallery showing and representing
emerging and established artists who work in contemporary idioms. Begun
in 2002 as a "portable gallery", in which director Scott Speh
exercised all of the functions of an art gallery without a bricks-and-mortar
space until 2004, when Western Exhibition moved into a three-room former
factory space on Chicago's west side. Western Exhibitions moved to Chicago's
West Loop gallery district in September 2008. The gallery focuses on
working with a varied roster of conceptual-minded artists, helping them
to achieve their artistic and professional goals. Western Exhibitions
stages solo shows of gallery and non-gallery artists who are given complete
freedom to realize their projects in Gallery 1 and in Gallery 2, exhibits
artist projects and thematic group shows. Western Exhibitions shows
work in all media and maintains a specific inventory of artist books
and multiples, gathered together on our sister entity's website, WesternXeditions
