NICHOLAS
FRANK
Hermetic Radio Hour

The Hermetic Radio Hour grew out of the Hermetic Lecture Series. Nicholas Frank was approached by Milwaukee radio producer Dave O'Meara about filling a summer time slot on Wisconsin Public Radio by formatting the lectures for broadcast. When the two learned that more would be needed to fill the 7-week time slot, Frank invited Milwaukee artist Stephen Wetzel to assist in creating original programming for radio.
The two decided that radio was the perfect place to explore visual art, as well as the formats already in common usage among the public radio spectrum: talk shows, variety hours, theatre, discussion, live performance, interview segments, call-ins, and game shows.
The result was a seven-week series of hour long shows that addressed everything from the relationship between art and sports to the ways mothers influence their artist children. Each week brought a lively array of guest artists, musicians and actors to the air in southeastern Wisconsin.
