Farmality
at Western Exhibitions is Baltimore artists CARROLL
& GAYDOS' Chicago solo show debut. Carroll & Gaydos
collaborate on sculptures, drawings and photos of mutants, half-breeds,
hybrids and other freakish and terrifying composites from farm animals
and cultivated plants that abstract and confuse issues of biotechnology.
While certainly critical of bio-engineering and "McFood",
these works are not all gloom and doom: they're also hilarious, fun
and kinda sexy.
Carroll
& Gaydos' work has been seen in Chicago at Western Exhibitions'
Stray Show booth in 2003, and they have exhibited extensively throughout
the Baltimore/Washington DC area, including American University and
the Korean Embassy. Farmality travels to Western Exhibitions from the
School 33 Art Center in Baltimore. In conjunction to that show, the
Baltimore Sun wrote a feature story on the duo's collaborative process
that ran on the front page of the Sun's weekend section. Their work
has also been written about in the Washington Post, Baltimore
City Paper, The Capital Times (Madison) and the Korea
Times.
